Donna Karan was the guest of honor and the recipient of Shenkar's Honorary Fellowship Award at Shenkar's glittering gala ball, held in early May at the Trade Fairs & Convention Center in Tel Aviv. The guest list included members of the Board of Governors, friends of Shenkar, designers and business people.
For the third year, Shenkar's annual gala was organized by the Israeli Friends of Shenkar Committee, chaired by Shalom Seidler. Each year, honorary fellowships are awarded by Shenkar to top people in various fields. Past honorees include Alber Elbaz, the creative director of Lanvin; the legendary fashion editor Suzy Menkes; the Italian designer Silvia Fendi; Shimon Peres, Hans Stern; Lord Sieff, and others.
Karan, who wore a sophisticated black dress shaped like an Indian sari, said: "I am the one who should thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet young and talented designers, who are actually the future." She added, emotionally: "If I am able to help and provide inspiration, to contribute something that can generate a change, I'm happy."
The Honorary Fellowship Award was presented to Karan by three Shenkar officials: Professor Amotz Weinberg, the President of Shenkar, Shalom Seidler, the Chairman of the Israeli Friends of Shenkar Association, and Moshe Golos, the Deputy Chairman of the International Board of Governors. The sentence at the beginning of the text of the award is Karan's motto: "Everything I do is a matter of heart, body and soul." Karan, emotionally moved, expressed her thanks for this gesture and promised to come back and visit Israel.
The highlight of the gala was a spectacular fashion show of bridal gowns, embedded with crystal jewels in various colors, a contribution by the Swarovski Company. (See full article.)
